Several ways to improve the speed of SolidWorks design

SolidWorks is a 3D mechanical design software based on feature, parametric, and solid modeling. Force analysis can be performed on the parts through the Solidworks Simulation plug-in, providing a powerful way to evaluate different design options, reduce design errors, and improve design quality. Through continuous exploration, I have accumulated some experience and skills, hoping to provide a reference for everyone.

1. Design your own work template

The SolidWorks software provides a number of standard templates that are inconsistent with our country's drafting standards and that differ from corporate standards, so we can customize our own templates based on national mapping standards and corporate standards.

(1) Create a part template First create a part model, add relevant information in its properties, such as "name, material and specifications, quantity, remarks, weight" and other information, in the part template can also define the materials commonly used in enterprise parts This allows you to prepare the model while measuring the quality, center of gravity, and stress analysis of the part.

Select the "Save As" command from the "File" menu, select "Save as" in the pop-up dialog "Save As", and then select "Part Templates (*.prtdot)" in the "File Name" dialog box. Enter the appropriate name and click "Save." In the future, when you create a new model, you can select the corresponding template.

(2) Customize the drawing template Select “Edit Drawing Format”, fill in the relevant content in the corresponding position of the title bar, and set its font and size. Then select each item in turn, select the "Connect to Properties" icon in "Text Format" in the left Property Manager, the "Link to Properties" dialog box appears, select "From the model specified in the drawing properties", in the drop-down list Select the appropriate item in the box. After all the content has been linked, return to the "Edit Drawing" mode. This establishes a link between the information in the title bar of the drawing and the properties of the part model.

Set the arrow size, font, hatch style, etc. in Tools - Options - Document Properties - Drawing Standards. From the "File" menu, select the "Save Sheet Format" command, select "User Sheet Format" in the pop-up dialog box "Save Sheet Format", and then select "Browse (B)..." in the "Save As" dialog box. Enter the appropriate name and click "Save". A link is established between the information in the title bar of the drawing and the properties of the part model. When the template is called next time, the related information in the part model properties is automatically inserted into the title bar. When the part model attribute information is changed, the related information in the title bar will be automatically updated, which can greatly improve the drawing speed.

2. Define shortcuts

In the design process, especially the veterans of AutoCAD or Electronic Drawing Board (CAXA), they share hands and brains during operation, and the left hand loses the custom command abbreviation, often one or two letters, and the right hand operates the mouse input. Command parameters, which greatly improve design efficiency and drawing speed. In SolidWorks, we can also customize the commonly used commands with shortcut keys, so that we don't interrupt the idea of finding icons or menus during the design process.

3. Mouse gestures

In addition to using shortcut keys, SolidWorks can also use the mouse gestures to perform custom command operations like the Maxthon browser. Use the mouse gesture as a shortcut to execute commands, similar to keyboard shortcuts. We can customize 8 mouse gesture quick call commands for drawings, assemblies, parts and sketches according to our own operating habits.

4. Set the reference file location

In each enterprise, the common parts and enterprise standard parts model files used in the design are generally placed on the LAN server, so that everyone not only guarantees the uniqueness and accuracy of the standard parts file and configuration, but also reduces everyone's preservation. Standard file files cause a waste of computer resources. Parts in the same series of products in the enterprise are borrowed from each other, so the location of these files should be added to the reference folder of SolidWorks, so that each time you open the file, SolidWorks will be in the order of the reference files. Search to speed up the assembly and ensure file correctness.

5. Save your custom settings

For custom shortcuts and toolbar settings and macros, be sure to save these custom settings after you have set them up so that you can reload SolidWorks next time or import custom settings when you replace your computer. Quickly enter the familiar interface and operating habits.

Open the SolidWorks Copy Settings Wizard from the Start menu, select the Save Settings task, select which customization options need to be saved, and specify the option save location and file name. When restoring the custom settings, select the Restore Settings task and specify which user to assign the settings to.
