New type of alkyne hydrogenation catalyst was successfully developed

On January 8th, a research team led by Professor Audrey Moore of McGill University in Canada announced that for the first time, they used iron-iron oxide core-shell nanoparticles to make olefins under mild conditions. Alkynes are hydrogenated in aqueous ethanol.

It is understood that this catalyst is very durable to oxidants such as oxygen and water, can be recovered magnetically, and is selective to a very small number of active double bonds. Related research results have been published in the RSC journal "Chemical Newsletter."
