Qi is a wireless charging protocol created by the Wireless Power Consortium. Devices that support wireless charging can charge the battery by placing the device close to the charging base station. In the future, Freescale hopes to apply this technology to automobiles, airports, office buildings and other areas. Because of its high degree of customization, Freescale believes that this technology will become the key for wireless charging base stations in the future, including wireless. The charging base is embedded in the car console, next to the aircraft seat, on the dining room table, in the hotel room table, etc., which can all become wireless charging methods.
Freescale said that in the future they will provide a programming interface that allows developers to add this technology to various platforms. As for specifications, Freescale has provided a reference circuit design that embeds the wireless charging base into the car console. At the same time this programming interface also allows designers to minimize the interference to the car radio.
As early as March of this year, Freescale exhibited a variety of wireless charging devices at the Electronica in Munich. It can put mobile phones, iPads, etc. directly on the charger for charging. This type of product requires the device to have a receiving module. For a mobile phone that does not have a receiving module, it can be connected to a port-adapted module for wireless charging. The current limitation of this type of product is that the device and the coil are required to be in close contact to charge. If a mobile phone cover or other accessory affects the charging effect, the mobile phone cover having the coil may be selected to be matched with the wireless charger for charging.
