Dwarf Dalbergia, Latin name Dalbergia retusa, trade name cocobollo, commonly known as coco Polo, belongs to the "Redwood" national standard five species of eight species of Dalbergia under the genus. They are medium sized trees that can grow up to 20-25 meters. They are mainly grown in Mexico, Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama in Central America.
The dimpled Dalbergia wood (coco Polo) is a hardwood that only mines its heartwood. Their heartwood is orange or reddish brown with a dark, irregular texture. The sapwood that is not used is milky yellow and has a clear boundary with the heartwood. After being cut down, the heartwood will change color. Coco Polo's surface and texture are oily, can be repeatedly treated and water resistant, so it will be made into a handle for pistols and knives. They are very hard, slim and dense, and easy to handle, producing clear tones. Their surfaces can be polished to a glossy finish. Its oily material is not suitable for use with glue and can hinder the drying of some paint.
