ThinkDesign application case: "big shark" in the cloud

Founded in 1990 in Trenčin, Slovakia, Fly-Fan specializes in the design and manufacture of a wide range of aircraft models, especially in the production of various aircraft models using Kevlar (a high performance fiber), carbon fiber and fiberglass. Has accumulated a lot of experience. Since 1993, Fly-Fan's products have been exported to the United States, Japan, Switzerland, Iceland and other European countries. In 2001, Fly-Fan began to produce a 3m long, 20kg, 1:3 aircraft model with a diesel engine rated at 15 hp.

In 2005, František Šustek , founder and engineer of Fly-Fan, wanted to realize a dream he had brewed in college, making a real plane. This is not a model, but a real airplane that can win the market by design, weight and passenger capacity!

Šustek said, “I spent 6 months doing market research to find a perfect market entry point for this new model, and I am also looking for a design that can be completed in 3D environment. CAD software. This is not an easy task, because there are already many aircraft manufacturers on the market, and there are many suppliers of CAD software. In the end, I decided to design a twin-engine aircraft and chose the CAD software of ThinkDesign. As a design tool."

The new model is named "Big Shark" because its shape is easily reminiscent of sharks in the sea. This is a twin-engine, 5-seat (1 pilot and 4 passenger) aircraft that can accommodate different markets, both as an airplane or airbus, as well as for search and rescue services. Be a private jet. The “Great Shark” is made up of composite materials and is powered by two Daxin Lycoming 320 Series engines with a horsepower of 160 HP (kW).

“The Big Shark is the first real aircraft produced by Fly-Fan. We used to only make airplane models.” Šustek pointed out that “the big shark is also the safest model in the world. It has very fast take-off and landing speeds. Slow; the stall speed is only 98 km/h or 54 nautical miles. It is also the most comfortable aircraft, with a spacious cabin (up to 140 cm), an extra large windshield, and side windows with a width of 120 cm. The widest type of aircraft. The constant-speed MT12 propeller also guarantees maximum cruising efficiency, and it also has the load-bearing capacity of ski equipment, bicycles and even motorcycles.

Fly-Fan uses ThinkDesign to design "big sharks", and this CAD software makes it easy to implement design changes at various stages. Starting with a sketch, the designer gradually enriched the details and produced hundreds of documents and drawings when designing a part. In the process, ThinkDesign's GSM (Global Shape Modeling) technology greatly helped Fly-Fan. GSM is the only tool that can create and modify designs quickly and accurately at all stages of the design, while automatically maintaining the integration and correlation of the design with all other product parts without re-modeling.

The “Great Shark” project was completed in just a few months and is now patented in the EU.

“ThinkDesign's service support is also very important,” Šustek said. “Although there is no ThinkDesign office in Slovia , we can continue to receive ThinkDesign service support through online training and Customer Care remote guidance. Interactive online training Courses, real-time demo demos, and online questions and answers from Thinkdesign experts ensure that ThinkDesign is easy to learn, easy to use and quick to master, and it also means we can maintain a high level of productivity.

Next month, Å ustek will be doing a new model of the big shark and will use ThinkDesign again to complete!
