The reporter recently learned from the Chinese Academy of Sciences that China's first manned hydrogen fuel cell testing machine was successfully tested in Shenyang. The aircraft has a flight altitude of 320 meters and zero pollution emissions throughout. At this point, China became the third country to have this technology after the United States and Germany.
The hydrogen fuel cell tester was jointly developed by the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Liaoning General Aviation Research Institute. It is modified on the RX1E electric aircraft developed by the General Aviation Research Institute of Liaoning Province. The 20-kilowatt hydrogen fuel cell developed by Dalian Chemical Industry Co., Ltd. is used as the power source, and the small-capacity auxiliary lithium battery is used. The hydrogen storage method is an on-board 35MPa hydrogen tank. . The aircraft is powered by a fuel cell and a lithium battery at the time of takeoff and a large rate of climb, and is fully powered by the fuel cell during the cruise phase and charges the lithium battery pack.
According to reports, this research has broken through several key technologies such as lightweight hydrogen fuel cells, efficient hydrothermal management, and highly reliable airborne power system integration. During the test flight, the output performance, safety, reliability, and environmental adaptability of the fuel cell system all met the technical requirements, and they exhibited excellent storage, startup, and operation performance at a low temperature of -20°C.
Dalian Institute of Chemical Industry is one of the major research units for domestic fuel cells. Its proton exchange membrane fuel cell research team developed the first hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle in China as early as in 2001. In recent years, the team has successively developed a variety of types of aviation proton exchange membrane fuel cell power system, which fills the gap in our country's technology. Among them, the Type I system was applied to China's first fuel cell-powered airship “Zhiyuan No. 1†in November 2009. The Type II system was used in July 2012 in China’s first fuel cell drone “Thunderbirdâ€.
The fuel cell is a highly efficient and environmentally friendly power generation device. The fuel cell-powered aircraft has become a hot spot for research and development of new energy vehicles in the world due to its low noise, zero pollution, and long-term battery life. (Reporter Li Daqing)
