Monolayer graphene has attracted great attention due to its high-speed electron conduction properties, and its physical characteristic is the Dirac cone energy band structure. However, the graphene band gap does not open, so graphene should not be used directly as a semiconductor material. Therefore, the preparation of Graphene-like materials with Dirac cones and open band gaps has become a frontier subject in the field of physics and new materials today. Graphene-like terpenes may have a Dirac cone with an open band gap, which has become one of the research hotspots for two-dimensional graphene materials.
Recently, the Cao Gengyu Research Group of the Wuhan Institute of Physics and Mathematics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the Gao Hongkai Research Group of the Institute of Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences collaborated to obtain a Dirac based on the basis of the monolayer of terpene obtained for the first time on metallic platinum. Taper and open the bandgap double layer terpene. Due to the strong interaction between the monolayer of terpene and the metal surface, its band gap and Dirac cone have not been found.
This latest study shows that in the double-layered terpene, due to the interaction of two layers of helium atoms, the double-layered terpene not only has a band gap but also has a Dirac cone energy band structure. This research provides a new approach for the preparation and practical application of graphene-like functional devices.
The related results were published in the recently published Advanced Materials. The first author of the dissertation was Qin Zhihui, an associate researcher at Wuhan Institute of Applied Materials. The study received funding and support from the Ministry of Science and Technology's "National Major Scientific Research Plan," "National Key R&D Program," the National Natural Science Foundation, and the Wuhan Institute of Materials and Numbers.
